Each spring, the GPSGA selects an outstanding master’s student, doctoral student, and faculty member to present with its highest honor: the Phoenix Award. The Phoenix Award recognizes exemplary achievement in leadership, scholarship, professional involvement and university and community service; especially relating involvement with graduate students. The student award winners each receive a $750 monetary award from the GPSGA and the Graduate College, and all winners have their names engraved on the Phoenix Awards plaque located outside the Graduate College offices in Whitehurst Hall.

The deadline is 5.00 PM on March 2, 2009.

There is no standard form for the Phoenix Awards. Use your best judgement while preparing and organizing the material.

As the nominator, all you need to do is to inform the nominee that you intend to nominate him or her, and provide him or her with the nomination letter to include in the nomination package.

The candidates chosen as finalists will be notified by early April.

The interviews with the finalists will take place as per the following schedule
Masters finalists: April 8, 2009
Doctoral finalists: April 9, 2009
Faculty finalists: April 10, 2009

The reception honoring the 2008-2009 Phoenix Award winners and finalists will be held on April 16, 2009.

There will be a nomination form that will be available on our website at the end of this semester. All the instructions will also be online. Once nominations open, we will be accepting them until the end of February. We will be also be sending out an email once the nominations are open and we will also post fliers around campus. Just keep your eyes open at the end of this semester for more information.
